My primary area of teaching and practice is creative writing. I have published four novels, a full-length play, poetry in numerous journals, and a number of books of translations from French to English, notably fiction by Anne Dandurand and France Daigle and, with Erín Moure, poetry by Nicole Brossard.
My own work and teaching are informed by Poststructuralist and Posthumanist theories, as they apply to the ethics of writing and translating. I am particularly interested in and inter-disciplinary contemporary practices of performance writing.
I am presently working with support from a SSHRC grant on a multi-media poetic investigation into the reception of the Chinese language and culture into English. The operation involves several transfers, from the original Chinese texts into visual poems and to videotaped readings. In the struggle to assemble words and phrases, readers of these poems enact the strange experience of speaking another culture, even as they unlock the materiality of language.
