Calgary Literary Kaleidoscope is a longstanding organization that supports reading and writing in Calgary through reading groups, guest speakers and, each year, by offering awards to graduate and undergraduate students who have produced the best creative and critical work at University of Calgary and Mount Royal University.
Students may be nominated by one of their professors or nominate themselves by submitting excellent work from an English course in the current academic year. Graduate students are welcome to submit a portion of thesis work. Deadline is May 31 of each year, submitted to the Department main office SS1152, although late submissions from Spring courses and under other particular circumstances will be considered.
The Kaleidoscope award is administered and adjudicated by the Department of English. Awards, which vary in number depending on quality of applications, have in the past carried a value of $500.00 to $1000.00 each (usually four awards). Recipients attend the November meeting of Literary Kaleidoscope to talk briefly about their work.
Winners are announced on the Department of English home page each November.
