I'POYI Aboriginal Writers Gathering

I'POYI brought Aboriginal writers from across the country together for two days of panels and public readings to celebrate and share ideas about the current situation of Aboriginal writing in Canada. The conference was an initiative of the Creative Writers Research Group, subsequently organized by an ad-hoc committee composed of members of the CWRG, of the First Nations Students' Association of the University of Calgary and individuals from within the university and the larger Calgary community. Funding support was obtained from the English Department and the then Faculty of Humanities of the University, from Freehand Books, from individual donations and from private companies engaged in the exploitation of natural resources on the Aboriginal lands in the Province of Alberta.
