Support for full-time graduate research at the University of Calgary is available from several sources.
General Information:
Most financial support is available only to full-time students in the first two years of the MA program or the first four years of the PhD program. In the first year, full-time status requires taking at least two full-course equivalents (excluding English 696). Subsequently, it requires spending at least 40 hours per week on program-related tasks.
Graduate students registered in full-time programs leading to Master's or Doctoral degrees are eligible to apply for all sources of funding through the Department of English. The Department offers workshops to help students prepare scholarship applications. All fellowships, assistantships and scholarships are awarded competitively, on the basis of academic merit. See Criteria for Awards and Applying for Scholarships and Awards
To be considered for Departmental funding, students MUST apply for all scholarships for which they are eligible, including SSHRCC fellowships and the scholarships awarded in the Faculty of Graduate Studies' Open Scholarship Competition. Students must give a copy of their application for any award outside the Department to the Department Graduate Office.
